Standard Mental Health First Aid

  • The Standard Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

    Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health problem and the treatments and supports available.

  • The best thing about Standard MHFA is it is for everyone. But the skills participants learn are especially helpful for workplaces, community groups, religious orgnisations and education and learning orgnisations .

  • Standard duration is 12 hours, and this is usually covered over two days of training.

    With face to face being the most popular methods, options included blended online can also be arranged.

    Price is determined based on group size, location and other specific training needs of the requesting orgnisation or group.

Conversations about suicide

  • The Conversations about Suicide course teaches participants how to provide initial support to someone who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

    Course participants learn how to recognise and respond to suicidal thoughts and behaviours, provide support and encourage pathways to professional help.

    Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, participants learn how to approach someone they are concerned about and initiate a conversation about those concerns. Participants also learn how to offer initial support and information and how to encourage the person to seek professional help or other supports.

  • This course is aimed at individuals, orgnisastions or community members wo are looking to build the skills in identifying signs of suicide, key supports for those experience suicidal throughs and behaviors and effective ways to link people with professional and others supports. This is great training for all workplaces, community settings, and educational settings.

  • The Conversation about suicide is a 4-hour course.

    Format: Face to face

    Price: Dependent on location, geography and specific training needs of orgnanisation.

MHFA Refresher and blended courses

  • Refresher courses: Course participants learn about the latest research in the mental health field, work through complex mental health first aid interactions, and practice their mental health first aid skills across a range of mental health problems and mental health crisis situations.

    Participants can complete a short assessment at the end of a course to extend your Mental Health First Aid Accreditation for a further 3 years.

  • Note: This course is aimed at refreshing the skills of people who have previously completed the MHFA course (within past three years). Current and Accredited Standard, Older Person, Tertiary and Industry Specific MHFAiders are eligible to attend.

  • Format and duration:

    The course can be delivered in 1 of 2 ways:

    Face-to-face: 1 x 4-hour session

    Online: 1 x 5-hour videoconferencing session
